A Gander in the Wetlands
Thursday, 17 May 2018
Meeting time: 9:00
Start time: 10:00
Easy 4.3 miles / 6.9 km
An extensive exploration of the newly opened Walthamstow Wetlands - "the largest urban wetlands in Europe".Meet 9 a.m. at Morden Station ( or 10 a.m. @ Tottenham Hale). Coffee in the Engine House. Good paths. Bring binoculars. Lunch @ the Ferryboat after 5 miles. Optional extension down the River Lea after lunch if sufficient interest. No dogs ( apart from guide dogs) permitted in the reserve.
Update: Just a few points to raise after my Recce. The walk itself is reduced to 4.25 miles (some of the paths are closed at present). The paths were good (mostly dry when I undertook the recce) & the goslings were just starting to appear. If you prefer a picnic there are benches & tables in the Paddock which is next door to the pub.
The afternoon optional extension adds 4 miles down the River Lea to Hackney Wick (from where there are very frequent London Overground trains to Stratford for the Jubilee Line or Highbury & Islington for the Victoria Line).
