Moderate 5.8 miles / 9.3 km
A moderately graded but leisurely paced, 5.8 mile walk starting from the car park of the Britannia Inn, Halkyn (permission obtained). We will make our way past St. Mary’s church and onto footpaths and tracks across Halkyn Mountain to reach Moel-y-Gaer hillfort where will will have a short coffee break to take in the sweeping views of the Dee Estuary and the Clwydian Range. After heading down through the village of Rhosesmor, we pick up the Wat’s Dyke way to take us through meadows, pastureland, short stretches of quiet country lane and the lovely pools along the Afon Conwy before reaching the old London to Holyhead mail coach route which we will follow to a stunning wildflower meadow and Castle Wood with it’s missile defence battery. After another pretty section of meadow we return to the Britannia Inn for an optional after walk lunch.
