(Estimated finish time: 15:00)
Moderate 9 miles / 14.5 km
This walk starts at the picturesque town of Llantwit Major where the pebble beach and dramatic clifftops form part of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast. We take a nice meandering walk along the coastal path, passing by Atlantic College, where some lovely views can be seen right across the Bristol Channel. We will stop for lunch at the Nash Point Lighthouse where refreshments (a cafe) and toilets can be found along with a beautiful view of the beach.
After lunch we head inwards from Nash Point towards Marcross where the narrow winding streets are lovely to walk around. We then cross through the ancient woodlands of St Donat’s Castle and pass by St Donat's Church. We loop back along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast before heading inland to arrive back in Llantwit Major where there are no less than three pubs to choose from.
This is a relatively moderate walks and appears dog friendly, but note there are quite a few stiles to go over. There is a rather rocky area near Atlantic college and fields that could get rather muddy if wet or raining.
Pontcanna Fields car park is at the end of Fields Park Road, off Cathedral Road in Pontcanna.
