Walking in Lea and Icknield

Welcome to the Lea & Icknield group. We are based in Luton and our walks taking place in and around the town.  We are fortunate enough to be surrounded by the beautiful Chiltern Hills, the pretty little river Lea which and the Icknield Way which passes through our town, and many nearby lakes and canals.

Our walks cover the counties of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire with the occasional trip to London.  Group walks led by our experienced walk leaders take place every Sunday morning and on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month.

The walks vary from a short 4-mile flat leisurely walk to more strenuous 8 mile walk with steep ascents and stiles. Group sizes vary from five up to 35 depending on the weather, with the average group size being in the teens.

You are welcome to attend up to three free trial walks before deciding whether  to join the group.

Our walking community

We’re a very friendly group who welcome both beginners and experienced walkers.  Members will receive email newsletters providing information about the group’s activities together with a regular walk programme, outlining the group walks.

After the Wednesday walks, you have the option of joining us for a pub lunch and a chat. We usually have many social events during the year. In the past these have included group picnics, garden barbecues, quiz walks, pub quizzes, and Christmas lunches/dinners.

Campaign with us - protect the places we walk

Walking is a simple pleasure that should be open to everyone, so we campaign to remove barriers to walking and we protect the places we love to wander.
