Milton Keynes & District

Group name: Milton Keynes & District

This group is a part of Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes and West Middlesex Area.

Our activities include:
Path maintenance

The Milton Keynes and District Group was founded in 1979 with 39 interested people. We now have around 247 members (Sept 2017) and an active programme of walks. We put on walks of 6-14 miles on most Sundays and sometimes also on Saturdays. In the summer months we arrange short evening walks (3-6 miles) usually on Wednesdays. We also arrange weekends away in other parts of the country, an annual coach trip, a Christmas walk with food and mulled wine, and occasional social events. Recently one of our walk leaders has put on some Wednesday day walks.

We welcome potential new members to our group and encourage them to join the Ramblers. We are also pleased to see people from other groups joining our walks.

Our walks are led by experienced members of the group, but we also encourage newer members to have a go at leading. Some of our members have taken on responsibility for checking footpaths in the various parishes. This is essential to keep the paths suitable for walking and ensure that stiles are not broken or paths blocked. Any problems are reported to the Milton Keynes Council.

We have also arranged some map-reading courses, including use of a compass which have proved to be very popular.

For some time we produced an annual Newsletter, but after a while it became difficult to find people to contribute to it, so it is likely to disappear unless someone volunteers to take over.
