Group name: Milton Keynes & District
This group is a part of Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes and West Middlesex Area.
Our activities include:
The Milton Keynes and District Group was founded in 1979 with 39 interested people. We now have around 263 members (Oct 1 2016) and an active programme of walks. We put on walks of 6-14 miles on most Sundays and sometimes also on Saturdays. In the summer months we arrange short evening walks (3-5 miles) usually on Wednesdays. We also arrange weekends away in other parts of the country, an annual coach trip, a Christmas walk with food and mulled wine, and occasional social events.
We welcome potential new members to our group and encourage them to join the Ramblers. We are also pleased to see people from other groups joining our walks.
Our walks are led by experienced members of the group, but we also encourage newer members to have a go at leading. Some of our members have taken on responsibility for checking footpaths in the various parishes. This is essential to keep the paths suitable for walking and ensure that stiles are not broken or paths blocked. Any problems are reported to the Milton Keynes Council.
We have also arranged some map-reading courses, including use of a compass which have proved to be very popular.
The group has decided to bring back our Newsletter on a yearly basis rather than three times a year. It was becoming difficult to find enough interesting material to fill the magazine, so after a gap of three years we decided to reinvent the Newsletter and publish it on our website at the beginning of each year.
