Group name: Winchester
This group is a part of Hampshire Area.
Our activities include:
Path maintenance, Dog-friendly walks, Short and easy walks
We are a friendly group with a comprehensive programme of walks - around 350 per year. - and with an active social programme. We also work to protect paths and the local countryside. We monitor planning applications, report on path problems ranging from missing signposts and overgrown paths to paths obstructed by barbed wire or flooding. In conjunction with the County Council we carry out practical works such as clearing overgrown paths and replacing stiles with kissing gates.
We walk regularly on Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday with walks ranging in length from 3 to 12 miles and at a pace to suit all standards of walkers. Almost all of the all day and half day Thursday walks include a pub lunch option, though some walkers prefer to take a picnic lunch. There is sure to be a walk to suit you. But please make sure that you're fit enough for the walk. If you're unsure of your fitness level, try a short and easy walk first.
In general our walks are in Hampshire and the countryside around Winchester but we often venture further afield walking in Berkshire, Dorset, the Isle of Wight, London, Surrey, Sussex and Wiltshire. We also arrange social events ranging from a quiz evening to Christmas lunch and dinner, and have organized group walking ventures of up to a week in far-flung places such as France, Spain, Andorra, Turkey.... and Cornwall.
We would be pleased to welcome you on one of our regular walks and discover first-hand for yourself the benefits of walking and meeting like-minded people. For more information please click the "Contact this group" link above.
Some upcoming walks are posted individually, and our full current walks programme can be found here: Winchester Ramblers Current Walks Programme
