Group name: Livingston
This group is a part of Lothian & Borders Area.
Our activities include:
Formed in 1980, to provide walking and social activities for Ramblers in the southern part of West Lothian, most of our members come from around Livingston, including Bathgate, Blackburn, East, West and Mid Calder, Uphall and Broxburn. We are a friendly and sociable group and our aim is to provide a full and varied walk schedule that can be enjoyed by all. To this end we have a walk programme on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The Thursday group meets on alternate Thursdays starting at 10am throughout the year, with most walks between 5 and 8 miles. The Saturday group concentrates on more challenging routes often to Munros and Corbetts, with other, closer hills included, especially in winter. The Sunday group, usually starting at 8am, offers a wide range of walks both low and high level with an aim of providing a variety of walking along river banks, glens or forests, hill climbs and coastal rambles. In addition weekends away to more distant hills are arranged several times a year.
Walks are often followed by a visit to a local hostelry or tearoom for a meal or snack. Most walk destinations are reached by car, and car-sharing is common. A standard mileage charge is applied per car and the cost is split equally between all participants including drivers.
The Thursday group meets at Livingston Football Car Park (LFCP), Alderstone Road, Livingston (NT047670). Both the Saturday & Sunday groups meet at Livingston North Railway Station, Carmondean Centre South, Deans (LNRS) NT036687, located behind the Carmondean petrol garage and the Arnold Clark car dealership across the road from Morrisons. Parking is normally available free of charge at both meeting points.
We regret no dogs are allowed on our walks where livestock may be encountered. On other walks, dogs may be allowed at the discretion of the walk leader.
Livingston walk leaders can borrow group OS maps from V McGowan.
We have a mailing list which you are welcome to join by clicking here to send an email to register on the list. You will then receive emails with information on forthcoming walks and other appropriate issues.
