Group name: The Oswestry Group
This group is a part of Shropshire Area.
Our activities include:
Path maintenance, Short and easy walks
Our groups help local people enjoy walking and protect the places we all love to walk. Most groups organise regular walks led by local experts – a great way to get outside, make new friends and discover how walking boosts your health and happiness. You’re very welcome to try walking with us, or to get involved in looking after paths and green spaces and opening up new places to explore.
Oswestry Group Walks
DOGS: Only 'Registered Assistance Dogs' are allowed on Oswestry Group Walks
Thursday morning walks. Approximately 4 to 5 miles, maximum grade Moderate and walked at a moderate pace. Normal meeting time 10:00 in Gatacre car park, Oswestry.
Sunday long walks. Usually more challenging walks, grade up to and including Strenuous. Normal meeting time 9:30 in the main Oswestry Car park in front of the flats.
Sunday medium walks. 6 to 8 miles, maximum grade Moderate and walked at a moderate pace. Normal meeting time 10:00 in the main Oswestry car park in front of the flats.
Sunday afternoon walks. 4 1/2 mls maximum and grade up to Moderate. Normal meeting time 13:15 in the main Oswestry car park in front of the flats.
Times stated in the programme are at the meeting point.
Please arrive early to allow time for leaders to issue instructions & arrange car sharing. Note: If you intend going directly to the walk start point, it must be understood that if, due to unforeseen circumstances, the walk has to be changed or cancelled, the leader is unlikely to travel to the walk start point. If in doubt check with the leader on the day of the walk. Note: Where a Grade+ precedes a walk description it indicates that the walk is harder than the average for the "nominated grade", but its ascent or terrain does not warrant it being placed in a higher category.
We have an active social programme, which in the past has included short walking holidays, BBQ's, Day Trip on the Llangollen Canal, Guided tours of Shrewsbury and Liverpool, Bowling etc.
Practical Path Maintenace Work
A small group of members help maintain paths in two Oswestry Parishes as part of the Shropshire Council Parish Paths Partnership network of volunteers. Full training insurance cover is provided by Shropshire Council and any out of pocket expenses are covered.
