Overview

A circular walk to Charmy Down which was an airfield in the 2nd World War. Through fields and lanes to Northend (Batheaston), then a steep climb up Little Solsbury Hill (an iron age fort made famous in the Peter Gabriel song).

Magnificent views, beautiful countryside, pretty village.

Start place: lay-by on side road off east side of A46 at Upper Swainswick. BA1 8BJ What3Words - files.grant.goats. From London Road, Bath, turn into Gloucester Road and, after 1.0 miles, turn right under the A46 (signposted 'A46 Bath') and follow the road round to the left to reach the lay-by. Or, travelling north on the A46, take left turn 1.1 miles north of the Bath roundabout (signposted 'Langridge, Tadwick, Wolley, Swainswick'), follow the road round to the left, then turn left under the A46 (signposted 'A4 Bath'), and follow the road round to the left to reach the lay-by.
