A walk full of interest, including Conisburgh Castle, a short detour onto the top of Conisburgh Viaduct and a lost village.
Meet at Sheffield Station to catch the 10:05 train to Conisbrough, arriving at 10:37. (Get open off-peak day return - 50% off with senior bus pass.) From Conisbrough station we'll walk up the hill past ancient St Peter's church to the castle, then follow the course of the River Don along woodland paths. After crossing the river at Sprotbrough Bridge the route returns on the other side via the Transpennine Trail.
There are a couple of hills near the beginning, then some ups and downs on muddy woodland paths. The second half flattens out and is on paved paths, with just a bit of uphill towards the end of the walk.
