Anyone who has read "Cider With Rosie" knows the name of Laurie Lee. This walk is from Slad, the village of Laurie Lee's childhood. It goes through the village past the cottage where Laurie Lee lived and on via woods and fields to Painswick where we shall have lunch in the churchyard. There are 99 yews in the churchyard (no, I haven't counted them!). Legend has it that if a 100th yew is planted the devil will destroy it.
After lunch we'll follow the Cotswold Way for a stretch then more fields and a gradual climb along a long lane then a steeper climb through a wood until emerging on a track that will return us to Slad and the Woolpack. I intend to have a drink at the Woolpack and i hope that you will join me.
Please park on the road near the Woolpack pub.
Please bring food and drink for with you.
