On arrival in Reeth we will have coffee on the village green before beginning the walk. Toilets are available (20p). Walk starts at 11.00. We cross Reeth Bridge and follow a well signed footpath alongside Arkle Beck with views of the valley and Fremington Edge. We pass Castle Farmhouse and go through Heggs Farm (a large rewilding project) before crossing the Beck on a footbridge to join a track on the other side to return to Reeth across fields. At the time of the recce (mid-March) the paths were very wet and muddy and there were some small streams to be crossed. Walking poles would be useful. There are also numerous narrow squeeze stiles and stony ground where walls have fallen down. On returning to Reeth, there is an option of taking a much easier path beside the Swale to Grinton and its old church, and returning past the Dales Bike Centre where there is a cafe and toilets.
PLEASE NOTE, conditions underfoot are likely to still be muddy and slippery in places so it may not be possible to complete the route as planned. If you have any queries please contact the walk leader (Sue Gray) on 07803 474 731
