Share the benefits of walking!

Volunteers are an essential part of the Get Walking Keep Walking project, bringing local knowledge, experience and enthusiasm and helping make sure we spread the habit of walking at a grassroots, community level. For volunteers, it's a great opportunity to share your enthusiasm, knowledge and skills -- and a good excuse to get out walking locally! You'll also receive full training and ongoing support.
Seen our advert in the Metro?
We recently had an advert in the Metro newspaper in London advertising for volunteers to help us edit and write urban walking route descriptions. More information on the role, and also an application form can be found below.

Volunteer opportunities
We're currently recruiting volunteers to fill four different roles:
- Walking Ambassadors to enthuse and support people around walking on a one-to-one basis, at led walks, workshops and events.
- Walk Leaders to lead short walks as part of local Get Walking programmes.
- Route Developers to research routes linking green spaces, transport interchanges and other local facilities, walking them on the ground and writing them up on route descriptions and maps.
- Route Checkers to assess other people’s routes and descriptions by trying them out and reporting back.

Time commitment is flexible, but you'll ideally have half a day or so a week to spare over the next six months for the Walking Ambassador and Walk Leader roles, and at least a day or so a month for the route development roles.
We currently have opportunities for volunteers in Birmingham, the boroughs of Hackney and Tower Hamlets in East London and Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark in South London. In early 2008 we'll be recruiting volunteers in Manchester and Sheffield.
Anyone can volunteer -- you don't have to be a member of the Ramblers' Association. To find out more and to apply, please click on the links below.
