Kinver Edge and Kingsford
Sandstone ridge, woods and heath west of Birmingham
West Midlands
This dramatic ridge within easy reach of Birmingham and the Black Country conurbation, straddling the boundary of South Staffordshire and Worcestershire, has airy views, woodland walks, an iron age hill fort and the fascinating Holy Austin rock houses, which were inhabited until the 1950s and have now been restored.
- Kinver Edge itself is partly managed by Staffordshire council, partly by the National Trust, who open the rock houses to the public (admission charge).
- Kingsford Forest Park adjoins to the south, with 80ha/200 acres of woodlands and walks and an information point, managed by Worcestershire council.
Accessibility
There is an accessible route from the National Trust car park to the rock houses. There is some disabled access in the forest park: contact Worcestershire council for details.
Public transport
Buses connect Kinver with Stourbridge Town, where a shuttle rail service operates to Stourbridge Junction for trains to Birmingham and Worcester.
