Former hunting forest in northern Herefordshire
West Midlands
An extensive swathe of woodlands, the remains of an old hunting forest, running southwest from Ludlow, Shropshire to Shobdon, Herefordshire. Much is owned by the Forestry Commission who have established numerous waymarked trails.
There are also large areas of National Trust woodland, common and parkland centred on their property at Croft Castle, including the Iron Age hill fort at Croft Ambrey. The Wigmore and Yarpole Loops on the Mortimer Trail explore this area.
Accessibility
The grounds of Croft Castle are mainly accessible. For details of accessible paths in the Forest, contact the Forestry Commission.

The northern section of the Forest is approximately 3km/2 miles walk along the Mortimer Trail from Leominster, with trains to Shrewsbury, Leominster and Hereford.
