Isaac's Tea Trail
Circular from Ninebanks via Allendale, Nenthead and Alston

58km/36 miles
Signed

A themed trail along picturesque river valleys and over high heather moorlands in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The trail is named after Isaac Holden, an itinerant tea seller and philanthropist of the 19th century, and includes places where the legacy of his "works of public usefulness" can still be seen.

The trail was created by the Friends of Ninebanks Youth Hostel, which is on the route and was opened in 2002.

Public Transport

The area is well served with bus links. Allendale has a good bus connection to the railway station at Hexham. Contact local Tourist Information Centres for further information. For enquiry lines, see Public Transport for Walkers.
