Limestone Way
(Derbyshire)
Castleton, Matlock or Ashbourne to Rocester
80km/50 miles
Signed |
A route through the southern part of the Peak District, setting out from the
attractive village of Castleton in the Dark Peak and continuing south into the
gentler limestone landscapes of the Derbyshire Dales, through Dam Dale, Monks
Dale, and Millers Dale to Monyash; Bradford Dale to the landmark of Robin Hood's
Stride; then on to Thorpe Cloud and along Dovedale. The last section is through
Staffordshire to the Heart of England Way at Rocester. There are also short
spurs from Bonsall to Matlock and from Thorpe to Ashbourne. The Way was the
initiative of Derbyshire Dales district council and originally started at
Matlock; the extension from Castleton and the Ashbourne spur were added
during the 1990s.
