Grantown-on-Spey to Forres
37km/23 miles
The Dava Way runs through farmland, woodland and moorland in north-east Scotland, linking Strathspey and the Cairngorms National Park with the Moray coast. The route follows the old Highland Railway Line, apart from a few diversions, and is all waymarked and offroad. There is much railway heritage for walkers to enjoy, along with the beautiful scenery and wildlife. Panoramic views stretch from the Cairngorms to the Moray Firth.
The route can be walked in a day, but it’s more likely that walkers will want to break it into two or three stages, or use it as a basis for circular walks. There are no places for refreshment along the route, so food and drink should be taken with you.
Public transport
The trail is close to the Grantown-on-Spey to Forres road (A939/A940) but there is no public transport along the route. Forres is connected by regular trains on the Inverness to Aberdeen railway line, while Grantown-on-Spey is connected by bus to Aviemore and Inverness. For train times see Scotrail services and or bus times see Stagecoach
