Hulme End (Hartington) to Waterhouses
13km/8 miles EASY
West Midlands
A multi-user route along the Manifold valley through the attractive Staffordshire Moorlands, following the former Leek and Manifold Light Railway. The route has been open since the 1930s when the railway closed, and is probably the earliest case of a disused railway line being converted to a walkers' and cyclists' route. Hulme End is about 3km/2 miles from the well-known White Peak village of Hartington.
Accessibility
Although level, easy walking with generally good surfaces, there may be some obstructions and mud. Contact the National Park Authority for further advice (below).
Public Transport
Waterhouses has buses to Leek, Macclesfield (rail services) and Ashbourne. Hulme End and Hartington have buses to Ashbourne and Buxton (rail services). Buses also operate on Sundays and bank holidays. See also the Peak District page.
