Unwaymarked Route: Scotland
Drymen - Pitlochry126km/79 miles
Named in honour of Scotland's most famous outlaw, Rob Roy MacGregor (1671-1734) and visiting many places connected with his story, this route runs north from the West Highland Way at Drymen to Loch Tay, then northeast along Strathtay, through rich woodlands, remote moors and heaths, with dramatic mountain views and the impressive built heritage of major water and railway schemes.
The route was developed largely by a walking holiday operator and a guidebook publisher in conjunction with local landowners, and it is hoped it should eventually be waymarked. It supercedes an earlier unofficial route, the Central Scotland Way.
Update: Forest Enterprise have temporarily diverted the route through Loch Ard Forest (between Clashmore Cottage and Aberfoyle) and this diversion may be in place for the rest of 2004. For details please email info@rucsacs.com.
