Inkpen Beacon to Totton (Southampton)

Signed A north-south route across Hampshire from the dramatic escarpment at Inkpen along the course of the river Test, one of southern England's finest chalk streams, famed for its trout fishing, to its tidal marshes at Southampton Water. Along the way are water meadows, steep hills with exhilarating views, woodlands, country villages and rural pubs, and the historic towns of Stockbridge, Romsey and Totton.
The walk was established by Hampshire county council and Test Valley borough council and dates back to the mid-1980s.
Public Transport
The route is divided into eight sections, all but one of which (the 8km/5-mile section from Stockbridge to Mottisfont) are linked by buses, with details in the leaflet shown below -- though bus services may be infrequent so check times first. There are statons at Dunbridge (just off the route near Mottisfont), Romsey and Totton, all with regular services to Southampton and connections for other parts of the south coast, Reading and London.
