West Island Way

Recreational Route: Scotland

Kilchattan Bay to Port Bannatyne, Isle of Bute
48km/30 miles

The first waymarked long distance path on a Scottish island is a fairly easy walk including seashore, moorland, farmland and forest on the attractive Isle of Bute. The route forms a near-circle at both north and south ends, and with Rothesay at its central point it can be walked as two fairly lengthy day walks, returning by bus. Much of the route is along permissive paths that are closed one day a year in December: contact the ranger service (see below) for details.
