Manningtree to Lowestoft

A walk through the ancient and tranquil landscapes of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in a less-visited part of England, including shingle beaches, estuaries, wild heaths and fascinating towns such as Aldeburgh and Southwold.
The original route starts at Felixstowe, while an extension, the Stour & Orwell Walk, negotiates the river estuaries via Ipswich: this route can be shortened by using the A14 Orwell Bridge or ferries from Felixstowe to Shotley Gate, or to Harwich on the Essex Way.
A new route, the Sandlings Walk, follows a 96km/60-mile inland route through the lowland heaths between Ipswich and Southwold.

Transport
The area is served by Anglia Rail services connecting London with Manningtree, Harwich and Ipswich, and branch lines from Ipswich to Felixstowe, Woodbridge, Saxmundham and Lowestoft. From the rail stations local bus services connect with many points along the walk.
