Along the broad and beautiful valley of the river
Usk, between the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains in the ancient
kingdom of Gwent, southwest Wales. The route runs alongside or close to
the river via Usk to Llanellen, where it joins the towpath of the
Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, passing close to Abergavenny at Llanfoist
and continuing via Llangattock (Crickhowell), Talybont Reservoir and the Brecon
Beacons national park. Along the way are woodlands, hillsides, spring
flower meadows and Roman remains.
While there are a few short, sharp climbs the route
is generally on the level, particularly along the canal sections.
The Walk is promoted by the Usk Valley Walk
Partnership comprising the national park, the local authorities and
British Waterways, and was opened in 1988.
