walk magazine - Reader Awards

Readers of the magazine for members of the Ramblers’ Association voted in our survey of the most trusted outdoor brands. We asked them to nominate their favourite kit – from boots to backpacks and from guidebooks to GPS units. We also wanted to know Britain’s favourite walking destination – as well as walkers’ favourite real ale (it’s Black Sheep, by the way) and the most trusted overall walking brand (Berghaus, since you ask). This year we asked readers to nominate their Walking Hero of 2005 – the person who has done the most to raise the profile of walking and the outdoors.

Why are these awards so special? Well, walkers are the people who use outdoor kit day in, day out and give it the most thorough testing imaginable. So if a walking boot or waterproof is going to stand the test of time - and all the conditions the British climate can throw at it - members of the Ramblers’ Association are best placed to put it to the test.

Here we present the winners of the walk READER AWARDS 2006, reviewed for us by top gear writer Chris Townsend. See if you agree with how our members voted.
