mixed welcome to draft marine bill, urging ‘coast for most’
clause
The Ramblers’ Association (RA), the national walking charity,
have cautiously welcomed the inclusion of a Draft Marine Bill in
the Queen’s Speech today, but urged that it must be accompanied
by a coastal access clause.

The Ramblers Association (RA) chief executive, Tom Franklin, has
praised walkers’ “respect and love for the countryside” on the
2nd anniversary of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act (CROW),

Britain’s first ever walk-friendly towns’ network has been
launched as a result of the ‘Walkers are Welcome’ inaugural

Jonathan Shaw, Minister for Landscape and Rural Affairs today
(25 October 2007), to re-open the South Downs Public Inquiry in
February next year.

The RA has welcomed the latest news from Defra today, that Foot
and Mouth Disease (FMD) movement restrictions have now been
lifted in most parts of the country.
Ramblers’ Association disappointed at judge’s decision to back
BMW
The Ramblers’ Association (RA) has expressed its "severe
disappointment" at the decision of a district judge, Witney, to
allow BMW and Oxfordshire County Council to close a 2000
year-old-path that up to 400 people use every day. They have
criticised BMW’s handling of the case, that turned a
theoretically simple case into an ordeal lasting well over a
week.
New research
shows attitudes to exercise differ among the sexes
New research for the Ramblers' Association (RA) shows that
attitudes to walking differ greatly between the sexes in areas
of high deprivation. The national walking charity will
unveil the research findings at the launch of its flagship
walking for health project Get Walking Keep Walking in
Birmingham on October 10.

over planned Roman Road closure
The RA this week - 8 - 12 October - begins a 'David and Goliath'
style legal battle against BMW in Oxford, who are attempting to
block public access to a 2000 year old footpath that over 400
people use every day.
