81-year-old East Devon rambler wins
10-year public footpath campaign
An 81 year old East Devon Ramblers’ Association (RA) member,
Eric Mawer, is celebrating the end of a ten-year campaign to
make Devon County Council legally record historic routes as
public rights of way near to his home in Colyton, East Devon.

Discovering Lost Ways
The Ramblers’ Association has welcomed Natural England’s
decision to scrap the ill-fated ‘Discovering Lost Ways Project’,
and to make a fresh start to the process of mapping and
recording of historic rights of way.

Cambrideshire Path Success
A Cambridgeshire path instrumental in securing public access
rights to footpaths around the country, has finally been
recognised as a public right of way after an eight year battle
which included a public inquiry, three court hearings and a
breakthrough House of Lords ruling.
South Downs Environmental
Protection Consortium
The Ramblers’ Association is a leading member of the South Downs
Environmental Protection Consortium which has challenged plans
for a giant wind turbine on the South Downs near Glyndebourne
when a Planning Inquiry opens in Lewes today (26th Feb).
Coastal Access
Regional television news programme BBC Look East invited the
Ramblers Association to comment on the issue of coastal access
in a bulletin broadcast across East Anglia on Wednesday 13th
February.

Avian Flu outbreak in Dorset
Following the confirmed outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian
influenza in wild swans in the Chesil Beach area in Dorset,
Defra have imposed a 3km Control Area and 10km Monitoring Area
around the affected premises.
