Ramblers start down path to new image [25
November 2003]
The Ramblers' Association (RA), one of Britain's most recognisable charities, is launching a new-look magazine called
walk on December 1 2003, to present a more popular, modern image that better represents its membership.
walk, which replaces the organisation's quarterly membership magazine, The Rambler, is read by an estimated 365,000 people. The new design, teamed with fantastic features on walking, environmental issues, walker-friendly celebrities, and award-winning columnists, as well as a broader lifestyle content, will reflect the organisation's status as the leading authority on walking and the countryside.
Christopher Sparrow, Editor of walk, said: "The new magazine will reflect the wide-ranging interests of our membership and has already attracted big names as columnists and contributors from 'Grumpy Old Man' Will Self to Janet Street-Porter and Polly Toynbee. Our quarterly publication is the best read walking magazine in the country, and this re-launch will only increase its popularity."
Nick Milton, Head of Marketing and Communications at the RA, said: "This is the first phase of an image make over for the organisation. Our membership is changing and our membership magazine needs to change as well.
walk, along with our excellent website at www.ramblers.org.uk, makes the Ramblers' Association the country's leading information resource for walkers. Membership of the RA is growing rapidly and the organisation is evolving to meet the needs of a new generation of walkers."
The RA has worked with Think Publishing on the re-launch and re-design of walk. Think Publishing is one of the UK's leading environmental and ethical publishers with an excellent track-record in the charity sector, producing Geographical magazine and books on behalf of the Wildlife Trusts and the Soil Association. As well as working with the RA on walk, Think Publishing is involved with the Ramblers' Yearbook and Accommodation Guide and an exciting new publication, The Walkers' Companion.
