BBC presenter to open new long distance trail
[3 June 2005]
BBC television presenter Michael Buerk will officially open a 154-mile circular walk in Herefordshire on Monday, June 6.
The trail route was devised by members of the Ramblers Association in Hereford using public rights of way and linking all of the country’s five rural market towns, and some delightful villages, in one giant loop. Funding for the guide book project has been provided by the Ramblers’ Association, Herefordshire Tourism Enterprise Car Free Programme and the Herefordshire Partnership.
Under the project overgrown scrub has been cleared, pathways have been opened up, stiles erected and new signs installed.
A 100-page illustrated handy guide promoting the trail has been produced and a website launched to raise awareness of the new walk. Herefordshire Trail will also feature in this year's Hereforshire Walking Festival, a two-week event between June 18 - 25. Nine walks from the trail will be used in the festival.
