Ramblers welcome Govt commitment to coast for most

7th October 2008

In response to the written statement made today by Hilary Benn, the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs:

“The Ramblers’ Association welcomes the positive commitment from government to a long-distance coastal path and coastal access land as announced today Hilary Benn, Secretary of State for the Environment. This promise of a long-distance route and land available for open–air recreation is a huge step towards greater coastal access. We also welcome Natural England’s obligation to conduct a review of early implementation and to report to Parliament after ten years. It’s now full-steam ahead for the Marine and Coastal Access Bill in the forthcoming Queens Speech.”
