Ramblers put paths at the top of Councillors New Year’s Calendars
23rd December 2008
The Ramblers are celebrating Christmas with a gift that ensures Wiltshire footpaths will be, quite literally, at the top of councillors’ calendars – a Ramblers Year Planner for 2009.
The tailored calendars, which contain photos, taken by Ramblers volunteers and showing Wiltshire at its best, have been sent to all Wiltshire County Councillors. Ramblers Campaign Organiser, Sarah Perry, comments: “The calendar sends a gentle message to local councillors that Wiltshire’s public rights of way play an important part in lives of everyone in the community.

For many years Wiltshire’s public paths have been neglected and under-funded, resulting in a network that suffers from obstructions and poor maintenance - nearly a third of Wiltshire’s paths considered difficult to use (source: BVPI 178 20006/07). The Ramblers has been campaigning for the last 2 years in Wiltshire, to persuade Councillors that the County’s path network gets a better funding deal.
Sarah Perry comments: “ Wiltshire Councillors will start every day of 2009 with footpaths literally at the top of their agenda. We hope this will be translated into practical actions, such as more funding to keep the vital local paths network in better repair.”
