I'm the Director of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Partnership and I've worked in conservation for nearly 25 years. A Yorkshireman living in the North East, I've also worked in Cheshire, North Essex and the Chilterns.
I firmly believe that walking in the countryside has so many benefits for us - not just the obvious ones in terms of physical well-being, but in its ability to remind us what really matters, and to renew the mind and the spirit, as well as the body.
I wander, and wonder, in the countryside with my rescue-collie, Alfie (The Boy) and sometimes with my wife and two daughters too. I love music, and stories of all kinds, and I'm saddled with Leeds United for the rest of my days.
I'm also convinced that a buzzard once saved my life, but that's another story...
