This October the Ramblers, in association with Times BFI 53rd London Film Festival, will be holding an unmissable three week walking festival to celebrate London’s world-class film heritage.
Timed to co-incide with the Times BFI London Film Festival, between the 14th October and 1st November 2009, the ‘Films on Foot’ programme will see 9 walks take place that visit London’s most iconic big-screen hot spots in the North, South, East and West and many, many more lesser known gems. The walks are free, fun, colourfully commentated, fascinating and open to anyone and everyone. They combine film locations with London’s tranquil green ‘gems’; it’s Parks, cemeteries and gardens.
Eleanor Harris, Films on Foot Festival Organiser, comments: “London is a wonderful city to walk around, with world-class locations that have been captured on film. The Films on Foot walks are a fantastic way for people to discover a different side to the city, especially during The London Film Festival. We also want to encourage Londoners to try out walking with the Ramblers - it's a great way to get fit, make new friends and discover different parts of the UK."
“Anyone with an interest in films, walking or just meeting new people and having fun cannot afford to miss these walks!”
The meticulously researched, guided walks range from 3 to 8 miles. They will take place every Saturday and Sunday at 1.30pm and Wednesday at 7pm, and will include instantly recognisable locations such as:
• Spooky Fourier Street, East End: 28 Days Later, Crying Game, From Hell, Nicholas Nickleby
• Lively Borough Market, Southwark: Bridget Jones, Harry Potter
• Iconic Greenwich Naval College, Greenwich: Four Feathers, Charlotte Gray, The Golden Compass, Patriot Games and The Duchess
The walks are being led by members of the Ramblers' Metropolitan Walkers group (20’s- 30’s walking group for Londoners www.metropolitan-walkers.org.uk) and Ramblers' South Bank group, which are part of the Ramblers Association (www.ramblers.org.uk).
