An update to our safeguarding policy

As part of our continuous improvement of policies and procedures we’ve started updating our policy on safeguarding children and vulnerable adults to reflect advice from our partner organisations . Now, everyone under 18 needs to be accompanied by a responsible adult, such as a parent, guardian, teacher or youth worker, when they participate in Ramblers walks and other activities.

Members are still welcome to bring along children for free, as long as they are accompanied by a responsible adult. Some groups are running walks for families, for example Edinburgh Ramblers who run a very successful Family Walks programme. Starting in 2015 with just a few families, they now have over 200 families signed up and walks regularly have over 20 walkers. Their 3-4 mile circular walks usually take 2-3 hours to complete and have been a hit with families, particularly those with younger children (3-12 years) who enjoy exploring the natural surroundings of the walk – from views to tree climbing to splashing in puddles.
