What is Ramblers Routes?

We created Ramblers Routes – an online library of high-quality walking routes – to give walkers the freedom to walk at their own leisure along safe, inspiring and interesting trails across Britain.

Ramblers Routes are designed for walkers by Ramblers volunteers and a unique feature is that any route developed by one volunteer is then checked on the ground by another before it’s given our stamp of approval.

Our growing online collection now includes hundreds of detailed routes, from short urban walks intended to introduce new people to walking through to long-distance, challenging hillside walks for more experienced walkers.

Each route has a routecard featuring a wide choice of mapping layers including Ordnance Survey Landranger and Ordnance Survey Explorer maps with the option to print the route and download GPX data. The routecard also includes detailed route descriptions, points of interest and advice on how to get to the start point.

Searching for a route

To search for a route, you can simply enter a location or postcode and search radius in the quick-search 'Find a route' box (found across the website and on this page) or alternatively you can visit the route finder where you'll be able to do more advanced searches including:

  • Choosing between a list view or interactive map
  • Searching by keywords and phrases
  • Selecting routes by theme or feature - such as historic or circular routes
  • Filtering routes by difficulty or length

Ramblers members who have set up a website account have full access to all routes. Registered non-members are limited to accessing detailed route descriptions of shorter, introductory walking routes.

When you’ve completed a Ramblers Route, don’t forget to review and rate it to help other walkers choose their routes. If you find any problems with the routecard, or encounter any problems on a footpath, you can also report it to us following the link on the online routecard for each route.

Get involved

If you’ve got a passion for walking and discovering inspiring places you could help us expand our online library of walking routes by sharing your favourite routes or helping to quality-check our growing collection.

We’re always looking for people with an eye for a great walking route to get involved as route developers and route checkers and it’s now even easier with our step by step route wizard to help you.
