Use Your Paths Challenge

The Use Your Paths Challenge was launched in March 2006 with the aim of getting all paths in England and Wales walked by September 2007.

The Challenge website www.useyourpaths.info has now been taken offline.

Thank you to everyone who took part!

The Challenge officially closed at the end of 2007, having achieved:

  • More than 3,500 participants
  • All the paths in more than 75,000 1 km grid squares walked

It was also noteworthy in that 20% of participants were not members of the Ramblers, and for 50% of participants the Challenge was their first involvement in a Ramblers campaign activity.

The ground breaking nature of the Challenge didn't stop there. The Challenge website was the first for the Ramblers, and among the first sites anywhere, to use an interactive mapping facility to record progress in real time. The site was also completely bilingual (English and Welsh).

The website remained live for a further 18 months after the challenge closed, with a few participants continuing to walk and record squares. This brought the total squares walked up to 78,000 by June 2009.
