Big Hit Wiltshire

The Wiltshire 'big hit' began in 2005, prompted by concern amongst local Ramblers members that the work of Wiltshire County Council's rights of way department was being undermined by budget cuts and a lack of resources.

The Campaign Working Group in Wiltshire, made up of local volunteers, aims to raise the profile of the rights of way network with Wiltshire's decision-makers, and collaborates with the council's rights of way officers to seek adequate funding for their work.

Lobbying and media work are complemented by casework on particular long-term obstructed paths. In June 2008 the Campaign celebrated the reinstatement of an ancient well path which is now in a safe and usable condition for the hundreds of children who use it to get to school.
