NOT FOR ADVANCE PUBLICATION OR BROADCAST BEFORE 00:01 HOURS MONDAY 5TH NOVEMBER 2007

Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment Richard Lochhead will meet the Ramblers’ Association Scotland this Monday (November 5).

Weather permitting, Mr Lochhead will walk a stretch of a newly opened foot and cycle path and will be available for a photocall at the nearby Loch Leven’s Larder shop and cafe.

The meeting will principally be about the relationship between rural development and outdoor recreation opportunities and how Land Reform legislation is working.

Other attendees include Ramblers’ Association Scotland Director Dave Morris and President Dennis Canavan as well as Robin and Emma Niven, the owners of Channel Farm and Loch Leven’s Larder development.

Speaking ahead of the meeting Mr Lochhead said:

“It is vital that we involve the Ramblers’ Association in issues relating to developing outdoor access opportunities in Scotland

“Scotland’s marvellous countryside is for everyone to enjoy and visitors make a key contribution to the rural economy. Developing new path networks is good for access, for farmers and the rural economy.

“It will be great to catch up with Denis Canavan in his new role.

“Today’s meeting is to look at a new path network, how it links into a new farm café/shop development and discussing how ramblers, farmers and politicians can work best together in the future.”

Date: Monday, November 5, 2007
Time: 1430 hours
