Reporting an access problem

Have you experienced an access problem while out walking? The vast majority of walkers in Scotland have no problems at all, but occasionally obstructions can occur. Perhaps you noticed an unwelcoming sign, a broken stile, or you were approached by an unhelpful gamekeeper? It is important that these problems are reported in order to ensure that the Scottish access legislation is implemented effectively.

Access authorities now have a duty to uphold access rights. Contact the access officer in the local authority area or national park where the problem arose. Access Contacts.

Give the date you encountered the problem, the exact location (grid reference or general directions) and details of the problem. The more information you can give, the easier it is to resolve the issue.

At the Ramblers Scotland office, we would also like to hear about your access problems so that we are aware of what is happening across the country. Please copy us into any correspondence with access officers.

Or maybe you would simply like some advice on a situation, and whether it is compliant with the legislation and Scottish Outdoor Access Code. We are happy to help, so give us a call or drop us an email.
