Crucial Decision As New Energy Consultation Is LaunchedRamblers have welcomed today's decision by Perth and Kinross Council to reject all five planning applications for windfarm development in the Ochils

Director of Ramblers' Association Scotland, Dave Morris, said: "This is a great decision on the day that the government launches its energy review. The message to our Holyrood and Westminster politicians could not be clearer - the people of Scotland do not want these monster turbines and pylons imposed on our world famous landscapes.

The government's present renewables policy is all about keeping the profits of the multinational energy companies rolling in. A sustainable energy policy needs to be focussed on real people and real communities while delivering carbon emission targets."

Dave Morris also warned of the need to stop the proposed new electricity transmission line from Beauly to Denny:

"The Government's own Sustainable Development Commission has said that it is essential to reduce our demand on the national grid and this is perhaps the most cost effective way of meeting our obligations to cut greenhouse gas emissions. The best way for us to support this sensible approach is to oppose all major expansion of the national grid. This will force the giant turbines offshore, with subsea connections down the East and West coasts coming ashore where power is needed. Onshore we need small turbines, in our fields and on our roofs, meeting local energy needs, cutting carbon emissions and our electricity bills."

"Perth and Kinross Council have today done a fantastic job in driving the windfarm developers and the government towards a new energy strategy which will be far more cost effective and sensitive to local communities and the wider public interest. It is time for the multinational energy companies to pack their bags and look out to sea."
