Ramblers Scotland took a leading role during the passage of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 passed by the Scottish Parliament in January 2003, receiving Royal Assent in March. This Act establishes a statutory right of responsible access over most areas of land and water including mountains, moorland, forests, farmland, coasts and riverbanks and is accompanied by the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. Dave Morris, Director of Ramblers Scotland stated “We can proudly say that Scotland now has one of the best arrangements in Europe for public access to land and water for its citizens and for its visitors”.
