Over 80 delegates gathered in Glasgow for this year’s Scottish Council. The key purpose for this gathering is to develop policy, influence decision making and elect an Executive Committee for Ramblers Scotland.

We’ve produced a new version of our guidance note on rights of way and development which covers not only the Defra advice but also information on new laws and government policy on rights of way and development, including the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).

We’ve been in the High Court this week to appeal against the ruling of the 1993 ‘Andrews’ case concerning paths ‘set out’ as a result of Inclosure Acts. As we wait for the outcome of the case, we explain its background and why it’s important the 1993 court ruling is overturned.

The City of Birmingham Ramblers are introducing monthly short circular walks on midweek evenings throughout the summer to offer people the chance to make the most of the longer daylight hours and warmer weather during the working week.

The Glasgow Ramblers have teamed up with Walk Glasgow to help people progress from shorter walks designed to help improve health and wellbeing to longer walks via free walks designed to encourage people to walk that little bit further.

The Worcestershire-based group has been adding innovative walks to its programme including a torch lit stroll and a taster walk designed for people new to the Ramblers which also saw them team up with a local farm shop.

Walkers, horse riders and cyclists in Burstwick, East Yorkshire, are celebrating following the news that a much-needed bridleway that will allow people to avoid two busy roads has been saved thanks to the efforts of the Ramblers and the British Horse Society (BHS).
