1. The role
To contribute to the RA’s work in preserving and enhancing the beauty of the countryside for the benefit of the public.
2. Duties
· To act as the Group’s main point of contact with the RA on countryside matters, receiving and responding to information from Central Office and from the Area Countryside Officer.
· To keep eyes and ears open in the locality of the Group for significant developments that could have an impact on the countryside and on walkers and to report these to the Area Countryside Officer.
· To work together with the Area Countryside Officer and other Group Countryside Officers to discuss the local RA’s response to countryside issues and to co-ordinate activities.
· To keep the Group committee informed regularly of activities.
· To work with the Group Newsletter and web editors to ensure that the Group membership is aware of local countryside work
· Where a local response to a countryside matter is appropriate, to liaise with Group Publicity officer to gain local media coverage.
3. Skills & Experience
· A love for the British countryside and an interest in working to maintain and enhance its beauty, especially for all people who walk in it.
· An interest in developing the countryside work at Group level
· An ability and interest to read through information from Central Office monthly mailings and to identify the countryside issues on which the Group may want, or ought to note and respond.
· An ability to work as a team with other Countryside Officers
· A willingness to be accountable for your work to the Group and Area Committees.
· An interest in working alongside others and in involving other members of the RA with the countryside work
· An Ability to work with a computer and to correspond by email.
4. Support Available
Support is available from the Countryside Protection Team in Central Office.
