These new forums have the task of overseeing work to give public access to open countryside, and the improvement of the public rights of way network for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The membership is a mixture of access users (like walkers) and landowners. There are 29 Local Access Forums (LAFs) in Wales, one in every local authority and five covering sections of the Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia National Parks.
Ramblers have produced a Handbook for Access Officers to help local volunteers on all aspects of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act – not least Ramblers members on the local access forums. We are seeking people to represent Ramblers interests on these forums. Please contact walking.environment@ramblers.org.uk if you are interested in helping in this way.
