Discover the Magic of Wales during the Ramblers’ Welcome to Walking Week (09/2005)

[September 7th 2005]

Are you fed up of sitting on the sofa worrying about not exercising? Then why not swap the sofa for a country path during the Ramblers’ Association’s (RA) Wythnos Croeso I Gerdded/ Welcome to Walking Week (17-25 September 2005).

The Ramblers’ national walking for health festival is a chance for everyone to enjoy the great outdoors, with nearly 30 free led walks across Wales’s beautiful landscapes.

The week-long festival is a great introduction to the joys and benefits of walking, with plenty of short easy walks suitable for all the family.

In Wales, led-walks are taking place along coastal paths, around waterfalls, up mountains and along disused railway lines and tow paths.

Beverley Penney, Director of The Ramblers Association in Wales said, “These walks have been designed especially for people who would like to an introduction to walking. They can be completed in half a day, will help get you fit and will give you the chance to make new walking friends.”

The Ramblers Welcome to Walking Week is part of ITV’s Britain on the Move campaign, which is encouraging people in Britain to get off their sofas, get out and exercise.

Beverley Penney commented, “The benefits of walking put other forms of exercise to shame – just 30 minutes walking a day will improve health”.

As a bonus, anyone who joins the Ramblers Association during Welcome to Walking Week can get a 20 per cent discount off the cost of joining the Ramblers’ Association (normally £24 per year).

Details of walks in your area can be found on the RA’s website at www.ramblers.org.uk/walks.
