Member discussion sessions

The board of trustees held three informal lunchtime Zoom sessions, open to all members, to discuss topics of interest. This is a new idea which the board wanted to test. The sessions were not intended to replace formal discussion of motions by General Council, but as an informal discussion and listening opportunity to allow more voices to be heard. It also supported the board’s response to the 2020 Council motion on alternative ways for debating topics of interest or concern.

 


Tuesday 22 March, 1.30pm – 2.30pm
BUILDING A MORE DIVERSE AND DEMOCRATIC RAMBLERS
This session focused on the challenges that our existing organisational and governance structure presents in addressing vital issues around democracy, diversity and member representation, particularly in light of changing requirements of regulators, potential donors, and wider society. 


Tuesday 29 March, 1pm – 2pm
SUPPORTING, ENCOURAGING AND RETAINING VOLUNTEERS AT THE RAMBLERS
This session focused on improving the volunteer experience with the Ramblers. We discussed the role played by Groups and Areas in supporting, encouraging, and retaining volunteers, and the services and support functions needed to support volunteer activities, including the ongoing improvement of our digital systems (including website, emails, Assemble, Walks Manager).


Thursday 31 March, 1pm – 2pm
LEADING WALKS AND DEVELOPING LEADERS AT THE RAMBLERS
This session focused on existing and potential walk leaders, and how we ensure our walks are high quality and welcoming to walkers of all backgrounds and experience. Including, how to attract and retain walk leaders, what support and training is needed, and examples of good practice shared by Groups and Areas.
