A Ramblers Cymru initiative has been selected as one of three projects that will feature in Tesco stores throughout South East Wales from 1 October to 31 December 2019.
By voting for us, you can help us set up the Scramblers Family Fit Challenge Cymru initiative, a 12-week challenge to motivate families to walk together, and to develop a life-long positive approach to health and fitness simply by stepping out on to their doorsteps and exploring the natural environment around them.
To celebrate Tesco’s Centenary, the supermarket is delivering a special voting round of its community funding scheme 'Bags of Help' which will see grants of £25,000, £15,000 and £10,000 awarded to community projects.
By placing your vote for Scramblers Family Fit Challenge Cymru each time you shop at Tesco, you can help Ramblers Cymru in its aim to win the maximum support of £25,000.
The challenge is a 12-week walking programme that families will undertake independently. They will be motivated by an inspiring free activity pack with progressive and engaging activities, logbooks and pedometers, and with an online social presence that they can engage with. These resources will be developed from existing Scramblers materials that have been trialled and proven to be popular and effective with children and parents.
Research found that on average it takes 66 days for a new habit to become ingrained*. The aim is by walking regularly for 12 weeks, many participants will develop a permanent habit of regular walking that will contribute to their lifelong health and well being.
If the project receives the maximum amount of funding, Ramblers Cymru will be able to employ a part-time project coordinator to strengthening existing partnerships for successful project delivery and to develop the printed resources will be available bilingually. Additional resources including a downloadable poster and local walk routes will be available online.
