Having done some local engagement in the Glamorgan Community Council area we were approached by Coychurch Lower Community Council to do some work around their rights of way network.
Our staff liaised with local volunteers, the Community Council and Bridgend County Borough Council to create a local ‘healthy & active’ route for community members to use. The local Community volunteers have also be looking to take more ownership of existing county walks in the area, and Ramblers Cymru have equipped them with basic tools along with training.
We have recently launched this route with the new walk leaflet being distributed around the local community. The Team also managed to incorporate some Bridgend County walks into the leaflet to give local people and visitors a wide range of options and to ensure all of these routes were being walked. Carwyn Jones MS whose constituency is Bridgend has also backed this project. The hope is that walkers enjoy this route and hopefully look to walk more in their local area and further into Bridgend as a whole.
This walk showcases the fine views across into the Vale of Glamorgan, but also the beautiful rural parts of Bridgend County Borough . You will also pass a few of Coychurch’s historical landmarks, such as the Williams Memorial Hall, and St Crallo’s Church. There are a large number of gates and stiles on this route that may hinder access.
These walks are part of the Paths for People community walking project which is managed by Ramblers Cymru with funding from the People's Postcode Lottery.
