Brexit and our land: Securing the future of Welsh farming

A valley and grassy slope with a lake in the middle

Brexit presented us with a unique opportunity to reinvent Agricultural Policy, which is why the Welsh Government consulted on the matter over the past few months.
This consultation mattered a lot to us at Ramblers Cymru as most of Wales’s 20,750 miles of public rights of way cross agricultural land, which accounts for almost 90% of land use in Wales.

We have long been campaigning for agricultural support payments to be linked to good quality public access.  We are pleased to see that our voice has been heard with the Welsh Government recognising countryside access as an important benefit and including it into one of the schemes outlined in the consultation.
We would like to thank those of you who lent their voice to the cause and responded to the Welsh Government to ensure access is given the place it deserves within any new post-Brexit Agricultural Policy.
