Are you aged 18-26 and keen to learn the skills to explore new local places on foot? During the pandemic, it’s important for young adults to have the skills to enjoy Covid-secure walks and responsibly access the outdoors. The Out There Award is a great chance to do this while improving your physical and mental wellbeing and meeting like-minded young people which is more vital than ever, as shown by this YoungScot survey.
As we all adapt to a ‘new normal’, we’ve slightly rejigged the Out There Award to give young adults the skills to plan new exciting local walks during the pandemic while safely extending your social networks and accessing our fantastic community of young walking groups. The award is split over two non-consecutive days, both with a different focus: outdoor skills, and a group challenge walk, planned and led by the group. Click here for details of the daily itineraries.
You’ll also unlock access to Ramblers Scotland’s six young walking groups, made up of friendly people who love walking, social events and getting out there. Before coronavirus, we’d already enjoyed brilliant days with enthusiastic young adults in Glasgow, Aberdeen, Tayside, Stirling, Inverness and Edinburgh and we’re hoping to continue to get Scotland’s young people out there during these uncertain times. We make sure we provide a welcoming and fun atmosphere for participants while adhering to socially distant learning principles. Most people don't know anyone when they turn up, so don't worry if you're signing up alone!
“With this knowledge, along with the friends I made during this award, it has motivated me to be better prepared when exploring the incredible walks and sights Scotland has to offer.” Jenkins “I would personally describe the Out There award as one of the best experiences of my life.” Emma
The award has been made possible thanks to funding from Active Scotland and players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
